VIDEO: Mark Stoops Leads Kentucky Football Players on Protest and Speaks in Front of Crowd
By Scott Rogust
It's been nearly two weeks since George Floyd was killed in police custody, and the United States (and other parts of the world) have come together to combat social injustice. Professional and collegiate sports teams have discussed how to bring an end to racism and police brutality, while also attending peaceful demonstrations in their respective cities. On Friday, Kentucky Wildcats head football coach Mark Stoops led his team to downtown Lexington protest while donning a Black Lives Matter shirt.
Stoops did more than just lead his players through the marching route, he actually spoke to the public about the ongoing social unrest in the country. The sideline boss admitted that usually he doesn't say too much in front of the media, but he wasn't going remain that way in regards to this issue. Stoops also implored that "everybody needs to get off the bench and make a difference" in their respective communities.
That's the only way permanent change can come.
Much like Michigan's Jim Harbaugh and South Carolina's Will Muschamp, Stoops showed true leadership during the ongoing fight for racial equality.
