Kentucky Cannot Afford to Overlook Suddenly-Surging Ole Miss in Surprising SEC Test
By Mark Powell
The Kentucky Wildcats are facing a classic trap game scenario on Saturday against Ole Miss, and they must do everything in their power to avoid taking an unnecessary L.
The Rebels have won three straight games over teams they frankly didn't have much business hanging with in South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi State. Ole Miss has found their mojo at the right time, and head to Lexington with nothing to lose.
Kentucky, meanwhile, is facing the opposite challenge. The Wildcats have everything to lose, as they're currently tied for the SEC lead with LSU and Auburn, and head to the Bayou just next week. Taking Ole Miss lightly would be expected, especially for a young team. Yet, John Calipari has been here before. He'll have his group motivated, at least in the locker room. But whether that translates onto the court remains to be seen.
The Rebels' guard combo of Breein Tyree and Devontae Shuler are dangerous. Even with Ashton Hagans defensive prowess, there's no guarantee UK has the manpower to completely stop this duo.
The Cats are rolling and in front of their home crowd. That alone should be enough to lead them to some much-needed home cooking. Just don't be surprised if it's harder than it has to be.
