Ketel Marte Joins MLB Players in Honoring Carlos Carrasco's Leukemia Fight at All-Star Game
By Sean Facey
The league is standing by Carlos Carrasco.
As the Cleveland Indians starter continues his brave battle against Leukemia, Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Ketel Marte and other players have chosen to display their support for him at the All-Star Game this year in Cleveland.
Carrasco was diagnosed with a treatable form of leukemia known as chronic myeloid leukemia over the weekend. It was determined that it was what was initially believed to be the blood condition that hospitalized him back in June.
The 10-year MLB veteran is already making progress in battling the disease. He was cleared to continue his strength and conditioning programs following the chronic myeloid diagnosis.
Though there's no timetable for his return, it's encouraging that he can continue his workouts, and it's equally heartwarming to know that players across the game stand with him in his battle.
The tribute from Marte is a touching reminder that at the end of the day, the game of baseball is just that: a game. These are real people with lives away from the game. Nobody wants to see them go through a battle with a disease as terrifying as cancer.
