Kevin Colbert's Quote Sure Makes it Seem Like Steelers Are Drafting a Wideout
By Scott Rogust
As any avid football fan knows, the Pittsburgh Steelers won't have a first-round pick in this year's NFL Draft after acquiring stud safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins last year. Instead, Pittsburgh will look to find quality players on the second and third days of the draft, and general manager Kevin Colbert may have tipped his hand about what area he'll address.
While speaking with the media on Monday, Colbert spoke glowingly of the deep wide receiver class, which makes it safe to assume the Steelers will use at least one of their six picks on the position.
When looking at the Steelers' receiving corps last season, you can't help but feel disappointed, considering all of the talent they have.
The Steelers rightfully moved on from Antonio Brown last offseason, and as a result, JuJu Smith-Schuster become the top receiver on the depth chart. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't deal with the extra attention given to him by opposing defenses. Of course, any wideouts who logged significant time in '19 dealt with a "revolving door" of quarterbacks throughout the 16-game campaign after Ben Roethlisberger's elbow injury.
Luckily for Pittsburgh, they can find a quality receiver from the second round onward. From deep threats to slot receivers, the Steelers will have their pick of the litter later this week. Roethlisberger's career is winding down, and Colbert would be wise to give him a young weapon in the passing attack for 2020 and beyond.
Based off Colbert's comments, that appears to be the plan.
