Kevin Durant Officially Declines Player Option With Warriors
By Sean Facey
Well, we all knew it was coming, but now it's been made official.
Kevin Durant has declined his player option worth $31.5 million with the Golden State Warriors and is now an unrestricted free agent, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Durant is arguably still best free agent available in the offseason despite the fact that he's expected to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign as he recovers from surgery to repair the torn Achilles that he sustained in the NBA Finals.
He's definitively one of the very best players in the game when healthy, averaging 25.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game on 52.4% shooting since coming to the Warriors, winning two NBA titles and a pair of Finals MVPs.
There have been rumors that KD plans to team up with Kyrie Irving in free agency, though the destination is unknown. He's also reportedly upset with how the Warriors handled his calf strain that ultimately led to his torn Achilles, making his imminent free agency all the more intriguing.
Best to strap in now and prepare for the show, because this NBA offseason is about to give us plenty of fireworks.
