Kevin Gausman to Make Rehab Start for Braves' Triple-A Team Tuesday
By Ryan Giglio
Atlanta Braves RHP Kevin Gausman will continue his rehab on Tuesday as he is slated to start for Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate. Gausman landed on the 10-day injured list on June 11 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Tuesday's outing will come after Gausman tossed 6 innings, striking out three and allowing an unearned run on July 11 for the Mississippi Braves (Double-A). The righty has been knocked around this season, going 2-5 with a 6.21 ERA in 13 starts. Despite striking out 9.2 batters per 9 innings, Gausman has given up more hits (70) than innings pitched (62.1) and has issued 24 walks.
The former Oriole struggled mightily in his three starts before landing on the IL, going 0-2 with an 18.43 ERA in 8.1 innings. This included Gausman's May 29 start against the Washington Nationals in which he surrendered eight runs in just one inning.
Despite Dallas Keuchel taking his spot in Atlanta's rotation, the team still sees Gausman as a starter and not a piece for the bullpen. In June, manager Brian Snitker said Gausman is a starter "until he isn't."
The 28-year-old's status and performance over the next two weeks will surely impact what moves GM Alex Anthopoulos will or will not make before the July 31 trade deadline.
