Kevon Looney Back in Warriors' Starting Lineup Where He Always Belonged
By Joey Mauceri
The center position has been a carousel for the Warriors during the 2019 NBA playoffs, but in the most important game of their season, Steve Kerr has rolled out Kevon Looney, who deserves the start more than anyone given how much is on the line.
Kerr could have gone with DeMarcus Cousins, who started Game 5 and played well offensively, but he ultimately went with Looney in Game 6, who has been the best all-around player for Golden State at the center position in the postseason. Coach Kerr has also started Andrew Bogut, Jordan Bell, and Damian Jones at center throughout the playoffs as Golden State has been tested by injuries.
The decision to go with Looney is a smart one for the Warriors. Looney has not only played at a high level of late; he has put everything he has got out on the court. Looney was ruled out earlier in the series due to a chest injury, but refused to simply be sidelined and looked for a second opinion, and was ultimately cleared to return to the court. What he brings on the glass and on the defensive end are irreplaceable when the team goes bigger and rolls Draymond Green out at power forward.
With Looney starting, Cousins can return to where he is most effective at the moment-- from the bench. Though Looney may not be the offensive player that Boogie is, he provides much more on the other end, a must against a team as prolific as Toronto.
