VIDEO: Khabib Nurmagomedov Says He's Been Offered Millions to Fight Floyd Mayweather
By Sean Facey
Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his lightweight title last September when he topped Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, and he has another defense lined up next month in Brooklyn agaisnt Tony Ferguson. But there are more than a few fight fans out there who want to see him take on an even more intriguing opponent. Indeed, the undefeated UFC champ claims that certain interests have offered him boatloads of cash to fight legendary undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Khabib vs. Floyd? In Saudi Arabia? Talk about a box office event. A matchup between one of the world's top mixed martial artists and an undefeated prize fighter would be a massive global event.
But there are plenty of conspiring factors that seem to be playing against this, of course. As Nurmagomedov mentions to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, he has a contract with UFC that would prevent such a fight from taking place.
Adding in the fact Mayweather hasn't fought since 2017 and has massive monetary demands for any future fights, this all seems like more of a pipe dream than anything else. Still, one can dream of the fantastic highlights that would surely emerge from a showdown between "The Eagle" and "Money."
Perhaps one day, the dream may even come true after all.
