Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo Have Somehow Put Up Almost Exactly the Same Stats This Season
By Michael Luciano
The narratives surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo and Kirk Cousins couldn't be more different. Garoppolo is the up-and-coming quarterback for Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers, while Cousins looks to shed the narrative that he's incapable of winning on the NFL's biggest stages.
However, Garoppolo and the Minnesota Vikings quarterback might be more similar in terms of quality than we previously thought. The two signal callers are almost dead even in terms of completion percentage, yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, and QBR. While Garoppolo has a slight edge in these numbers, Cousins has fewer interceptions and a higher passer rating.
Both QBs, regardless of their individual statistics, have done brilliantly to lead their teams this far.
As the two get ready to duke it out in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Garoppolo might have a slight edge over Cousins. Not only is he playing at home, but he's saved his best performances for the best teams.
Garoppolo might have the more explosive style of play, but Cousins has statistically matched him stride for stride over the course of this season. It remains to be seen which of the two identical quarterbacks will come out on top Saturday night in Santa Clara.
