Kirk Cousins is Somehow the Master at Securing the Bag and More Players Need to Take Note
By Brendan Balsamo
In 2018, Kirk Cousins signed a three-year, $84 million fully-guaranteed contract with the Minnesota Vikings, a contract which was scoffed at by NFL fans ever since. Somehow, he managed to one-up himself Monday morning ,when he signed a new two-year extension with the team worth $66 million.
Cousins' latest deal is just living proof that he has some absurd negotiating tactic up his sleeve, because a man with only one playoff win in his career simply should not be securing this much guaranteed money. Other players should be blowing up Cousins' phone asking him how he's managed to convince Minnesota's front office to overpay him in back-to-back contract negotiations.
Cousins' contract in 2018 gave him the highest annual pay in the history of the NFL. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kirk Cousins is not the best player in NFL history, is he?
Cousins is no doubt a good, and at times great, quarterback, having boasted a streak of four straight seasons with 4,000 or more passing yards and a career high 30 passing touchdowns and 70.1% completion percentage in 2018. Still, there has been rightful concern over his ability to perform on big stages, and even after failing to achieve much postseason success in Minnesota, the Vikings have re-upped his deal.
Folks, if there's a Kirk Cousins seminar on "how to effectively secure the bag," we advise any and all NFL free agents to sign up. This is now the second time he's stunned the league by locking down an impressive pay day without proving much on the field.
