Klay Thompson and Warriors Could Reportedly 'Agree Quickly' if Huge Contract Demands Are Met
By Jerry Trotta
Klay Thompson has made it handsomely clear that his main priority this offseason is to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, but only if general manager Bob Myers is willing to offer him a max contract.
It has been reported this week, however, that Klay would consider a meeting with the Clippers if the Dubs did not reward his loyalty to the franchise with such a lucrative offer.
What is Thompson's coveted deal you ask? Well, per Shams Charania, the five-time All-Star is meeting with Golden State this week and if they offer something similar to a five-year, $190 million contract, a deal would be agreed upon in short order.
To be fair, this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Thompson was always expected to remain in Oakland, even if he held a meeting with the Clips. That report could even have been formulated as a smokescreen to force the Warriors' hand to get a deal done as soon as possible.
As much as we'd like to see Klay sign elsewhere and become the MAIN guy on another contender, he is coming off a torn ACL. Staying with Golden State, the organization that took a chance on him in the 2011 draft, in an offense that perfectly complements his all-time great marksmanship, seems like a no-brainer, especially if he's raking in $38 million per year.
