Knicks Predictably Gearing up for Run at Chris Paul Trade This Summer
By Brendan Balsamo
14-year veteran and 34-year-old Chris Paul is captaining the Oklahoma City Thunder into the playoffs, currently leading the team to the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, the dreadful New York Knicks are watching from 13th place in the East and seem to want in on such a turnaround as well. Multiple sources from around the NBA have said that the Knicks are gathering intel on Paul and plan on making a run at him in the coming offseason.
Paul, despite his age, is averaging 17.5 points per game, second on the team only to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and is first on the squad while averaging 6.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
The Knicks could use the veteran leadership, as they have only six players with over five years of NBA experience on the roster. Their longest tenured players are Taj Gibson and Wayne Ellington, both of which have only played ten years compared to Paul's 14. With Leon Rose in as the Knicks' new president, Paul would be a great fit.
The idea of the Knicks bringing in veteran NBA players for the coming season isn't a new one either, as they reportedly have exercised the idea of bringing back former Knick and 18-year veteran Carmelo Anthony for 2020.
The Knicks have been an embarrassment in the NBA for the past few years, and maybe getting Paul to work in tandem with RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson could bring them back to relevance.
