In a sports climate such as this, in which many people are shrouded in grief, it is paramount that any discussion surrounding death is carefully articulated. Furthermore, if a prior player is being remembered after a premature death, it is especially important to get all the details accurate.

That is why the Knicks social team is being rightly dunked on after their memorial post for Anthony Mason caught the eye of the Twitterati this morning. It was a nice tribute to a player who donned the orange and white for six seasons. There was only one issue: Anthony Mason didn't pass away in January.

Like, c'mon, really? I get that it may have been a simple mistake in which the wrong month was connected to the date. However, in a time where emotions are still very raw from the passing of Kobe Bryant, a death tribute is an extremely sensitive topic to tackle.

With the team not performing up to expectations (ok, maybe meeting low expectations), and the atmosphere surrounding the franchise apathetic at best, one would hope the Knicks would do their due diligence to make sure they got the correct date of death with one google search.

Apparently not.
