Knicks Will Never Approach Competency Again Until Steve Mills is Dismissed
By Andy Loughmiller
The New York Knicks got off to yet another ice cold start in 2019-20. After kicking off the year 4-18, the Knicks parted ways with head coach David Fizdale just 22 games into the regular season, and that might not be the only change they make.
While the lack of talent on the roster and questionable coaching hires have certainly been partially responsible for the Knicks' lack of success, the real problem lays with Steve Mills.
It's hard to remember a time when the Knicks weren't the punchline of NBA jokes. One constant during their stretch of poor play has been the presence of Mills as the team's president.
If the Knicks really want to begin to right the ship, then they need to do some remodeling that goes beyond coaches and player personnel, starting with Mills, who was promoted to president of the team in 2017.
It's safe to say that there is a culture issue in this organization, and culture starts at the top. If Mills' time in New York is actually coming to an end, it could finally signal the beginning of a new era.
All fingers are pointing at the same guy, and many people seem to be in agreement about who the real problem is in New York -- in addition to owner James Dolan. If this change does take place, hopefully it will mark the first step towards the Knicks becoming a competent franchise once again.
