Kobe Bryant Reportedly Trying to Recruit Kyrie Irving to Lakers is Beyond Weak
By Zack Jiang
Rumors of a Kyrie Irving-LeBron James reunion in L.A. have been swirling for months. After the Celtics' pathetic exit in the Eastern Conference semifinals, it seems even more likely that Kyrie Irving is on his way out.
According to Ric Bucher, he is even getting recruited by Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
That's right, the player that pushed Shaq out of L.A. to lead his own team is now trying to convince Kyrie to reunite with the King.
It should be no surprise to see former Lakers players trying to convince a great player like Kyrie to come to the Lakers – but Kobe? The guy who built his career and reputation on the so-called "Mamba Mentality" is now trying to tell Kyrie to go back to being LeBron's sidekick? Now that's just not right.
Bryant still prides himself on his alpha dominance even after retirement. He even used it as a guide to issue other players and celebrities "Mamba Mentality Challenges".
I don't know about you, but I don't think becoming sidekick to the guy you requested a trade from to lead your own team fits under the Mamba Mentality – especially after you completely failed as a leader.
If Kobe really preaches and believes in his Mamba Mentality, he should be convincing Kyrie to find a place to excel as the leader to bounce back from his collapse as the go-to guy this past season. It might not be what Lakers fans want to hear, but it's what Irving needs to hear.
