Kobe Bryant's Sister Sharia Gets Tattoo to Honor Black Mamba and Gianna
By Dylan McCaffrey
There are a lot of ways to grieve the loss of a family member, or to celebrate their life. Kobe Bryant's sister, Sharia, shared the way she's choosing to remember the family she lost on Jan. 26.
The tattoo depicts Kobe Bryant's number, 24, when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers, and Gianna Bryant's AAU number. Intertwining the two numbers is a black mamba forming the infinity symbol.
This is a really well-thought out tribute to Kobe and Gianna, and it holds so much meaning about their infinite impact on many sports fans and athletes around the world. Kobe was global phenomenon, known and loved in every single country.
Gianna was being coached by Kobe and tutored by NCAA star Sabrina Ionescu. She was destined to be a phenomenal player, and the relationship she had was clearly a loving and beautiful one. Gianna had her number retired by Harbor Day school, the school she played basketball at until eighth grade.
While everyone comes to grips with the loss of an NBA legend and his daughter, keep in mind how much harder it will be for close family to get even remotely close to a place of acceptance. Vanessa Bryant's speech says it all.
While the Bryant family finds a way past this tragedy, it's comforting that Sharia has honored the lasting impact this event will have on our perspectives and our appreciation of what we have.
