Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward Out of Cubs Lineup Following Scary Collision Against Reds
By Brendan Azoff
After colliding trying to track down a Eugenio Suarez fly ball to right-center on Sunday, Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward will both be missing Monday's game against the Astros.
The Cubs lost the game to the Reds 10-2, but fans in Chicago are collectively holding their breath hoping the surging Kris Bryant won't be out long.
Teams must always be cautious when a player has a head or neck injury, which is the case here with Bryant. The Cubs hope the slugger does not have a concussion, but if he does, his absence would be for an extended period of time.
As for Heyward, his non-appearance in Monday's lineup seems more precautionary, as his injury is less severe than Bryant's.
Heyward is most likely day-to-day and should be in the Cubs lineup again relatively soon. The injuries are consistent with the collision, as Bryant's head collided with Heyward's side during the play.
With Chicago holding a 1.5-game lead over the Brewers in the NL Central, they'll hope both players can return ASAP.
