Kris Bryant Calls Out Astros for Sign-Stealing and Thinks Other Teams Broke Rules as Well
By Jackson Thompson
The Houston Astros shame tour continues, and Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant is finally hopping on board. Bryant, who is typically mundane and stoic with the media, was asked on Thursday if he felt sorry for the abuse that the Astros were taking from the baseball community.
His answer, given the trend, shouldn't surprise us.
"No, I do not feel sorry for them. Not at all,’’ Bryant said. “We have kids watching us play. They look up to us. They don’t want to see this. What kind of message are we sending? We don’t want to have kids thinking this is Ok. Not my son. I know technology is different today, but cheating is cheating.’’
Bryant has already won a World Series, and has been less impacted by the Astros cheating scandal than other players. However, as a respected figure in MLB, his word holds weight and his decision to join the masses in condemning the Astros is another shot at Houston's credibility as an organization.
KB also added that he doesn't rule out the possibility that the Astros continued their cheating after 2017, and that they weren't the only team in major league baseball stealing signs illegally.
“All we have to go is their word. I don’t know. But last year when they added an (MLB employee) to sit next to the live feed, I don’t know how you would get around that?’’ Bryant said. I definitely think others were. I don’t know if other teams were doing it that same way, but people are always trying to find a way for that competitive advantage."
Bryant and the Cubs are not scheduled to play the Astros in 2020, but this is still fuel to the fire for Houston.
