Scott Boras Insists Coronavirus Crisis Won't Impact Kris Bryant's Monster Free Agent Contract
By Adam Weinrib

Kris Bryant's free agency cycle has seemed headed for contention ever since his minor-league days, which lasted...longer than they should've in the interest of delaying the inevitable.
Bryant was dealt his first blow of 2020 when he lost a grievance, sending him to free agency following the 2021 season, thanks to time served. Then, of course, his case hit an entirely different rut, as the game's economic picture changed forever as the coronavirus spread across the country.
Per the Cubs star's agent Scott Boras, though, Bryant's pay day will not be affected by a murky economic picture.

"For the players who are the great players - because there's always only a few great players - I don't think it's going to have anywhere near the impact," Boras told NBC Sports Chicago.
Boras has been a champion of players' rights ever since the crisis first caused negotiations between the MLBPA and ownership to crystallize into confusion.
Scott Boras hit it right on the nose:

“As a business owner, you have situations that are upstart and situations that are difficult...You certainly don’t go to your salaried employees and expect them to spread the losses during bad years and not participate in the gains.” pic.twitter.com/RuoBdlh3y7
When it came to Bryant specifically, Boras went the extra mile, and laid out the argument for signing the slugger before his age-30 season.
"He's an established guy, a very proven player," Boras told Gordon Wittenmyer. "And there aren't many players like him. Just plays so many positions; he's a power hitter; .900-OPS players are hard to find. And you always have the (added) benefit of less wear and tear (from a shortened season) going forward."
Chicago's extension talks with stars like Javier Baez have been frozen in recent weeks, due to the many moving pieces of this ongoing crisis, but even prior to this shutdown, securing Bryant's future didn't seem to be a part of their plans. Hopefully, for KB's sake, the rest of the league concurs with Boras about his value.
