Nationals and Phillies Reportedly Interested in Kris Bryant With Braves Yet to Make Any Offer
By Mark Powell
Is no news, news?
In the wake of the Mookie Betts trade the next-largest name on the trade market is either Kris Bryant or Francisco Lindor, and there's no guarantee either is dealt by the time Spring Training rolls around shortly.
The Cubs recently won Bryant's service time grievance against the club, meaning they have two more seasons of control over the star third baseman, making him all the more attractive of an asset. Nonetheless, the Braves aren't biting yet.
The Phillies and Nationals, meanwhile, have expressed interest.
Bryant fits in well in the NL East one way or another. The Phillies lack a big bat to pair with JT Realmuto and Bryce Harper, while the Nationals lost Anthony Rendon this very offseason.
With Betts' name off the market, there's a good chance the Cubs up their sense of urgency should they decide they absolutely must trade Bryant while his value is at its apex.
Bryant hit .272 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs in an injury-shortened 2019 season.
