Kyle Lowry Gives Incredible Answer About What Pressure Means to Him
By Jerry Trotta
Kyle Lowry might be playing in the first NBA Finals of his 14-year career and he might be on the brink of delivering the Toronto Raptors their first championship in franchise history, but don't think for a second that he's letting the pressure affect his play.
Rather, the five-time All-Star uses it as his prime motivator.
As a child, Lowry's mother and grandmother struggled to provide for him, his brother, and several of his little cousins. In an awesome description of the importance of family, Lowry labels true pressure as providing for loved ones, and doing whatever is necessary to "protect who you have to protect."
Just wow.
It really is all about perspective, and Lowry is a genuine realist.
What makes it all the more authentic, however, is that he's backing up his pressure-proof mindset with effective play against the Warriors in the finals.
The 33-year-old point guard is averaging just under 14 points and 6.7 assists in the Finals, promptly putting to bed the previously widely-regarded notion that he is a choker and no-show in the postseason. In fact, these numbers line up almost identically with his career regular season and postseason statistics.
If all goes well on Monday and Lowry and Co. do in fact defeat Golden State in Game 5 to secure the Larry O'Brien Trophy, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will give all the credit to his true heroes -- his mother and grandmother.
