Kyle Trask is a Baller and Florida is Still a Legit SEC Contender Without Feleipe Franks
By Sean Facey
When Feleipe Franks dislocated his right ankle, it put an abrupt end to his season, and to most people, it spelled doom for Florida. With their starting quarterback gone, there was seemingly absolutely no hope for the 2019 campaign.
That, of course, was before Kyle Trask balled out against Tennessee. The backup quarterback completed 75% of his passes, guiding the Gators to a convincing 34-3 over the Volunteers and proving that they're still legitimate contenders in the SEC.
It was an extremely reassuring performance. Though he did toss two interceptions, he also found the end zone twice, totaling 293 yards through the air as the Gators cruised to their fourth straight win to start the year.
His numbers were more or less on par with what Franks was averaging his first few games of the year. The Gators couldn't possibly be in a better situation. With one quarterback sidelined with injury, they practically have a tit-for-tat backup ready to step in.
Sure, the Vols have been an extremely underwhelming squad this year, but that shouldn't detract from just how impressive Trask's performance was.
Getting a win over an in-conference opponent is no easy feat, especially in the SEC.
Trask was thrust into the starting role on incredibly short notice this year, yet he's handled it well. Despite getting so few reps in recent years, he's balling out, and he's proving that the Gators will be just fine.
