VIDEO: Kyle Van Noy Calls Patriots Playoff Path a 'Revenge Tour'
By Scott Rogust
For the first time in recent memory, the New England Patriots were not awarded a first round bye in the NFL playoffs. After dropping their regular season finale to the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs leapfrogged New England for the No. 2 seed in the AFC bracket. Remember last postseason, when the Patriots claimed they were underdogs, despite their five Lombardi Trophies at the time? Well, now they have a new slogan. Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy told the media on Monday that the team is on a "Revenge Tour."
You have to give the Patriots credit. They always find motivation to prove their supposed doubters wrong, even though they've dominated for nearly two decades.
But Van Noy has a point. The Patriots lost to the Tennessee Titans last season, and will look to avenge the regular season loss in the Wild Card Round this upcoming weekend. If the Patriots advance, they would have to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round, whom they narrowly lost to back in Week 14.
Then, there are the Baltimore Ravens, the top seed in the AFC, who blew out New England in Week 9. Of course, that only happens if both New England and Baltimore advance to the AFC Championship Game.
Yes, the New England Patriots dubbing themselves underdogs is a bit annoying. But this "Revenge Tour" motto does carry some weight.
