Kyrie Irving and Nike Put up Big 'Playing at Home' Billboard Outside Madison Square Garden
By Chris Russo
As if not being able to sign him wasn't enough, the New York Knicks will have to endure more mental torment at the hands of Kyrie Irving.
The Brooklyn Nets guard teamed with Nike to put up a new billboard just outside of Madison Square Garden. Yup, this one is going to hurt for Knicks fans out there.
The billboard says Irving, a native of West Orange, New Jersey, less than an hour's drive from New York City, always wanted to play at home.
Irving grew up watching the Nets when they were still playing at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Geographically speaking, Irving would actually be closer to home if he played for the Knicks.
Certain parts of New Jersey are part of the New York metropolitan area, so Irving has every right to say he's come home, but putting up a billboard right outside MSG is just uncalled for, especially since he doesn't have a lot of bragging rights.
The Knicks suffered enough watching Irving, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and a number of other superstars turn them down last summer, so it's just unfair to pour it on.
The Nets may be struggling at 3-4, but Irving still stung the Knicks enough on the court a couple of weeks ago in the Nets' 113-109 victory, so to the victor goes the spoils.
