Kyrie Irving’s Injury Causing Him to Miss Games Against Cavaliers and Celtics is Way Too Convenient

If Kyrie Irving was in a mood for reunions, he will have to wait.

The Brooklyn Nets star point guard will miss the team's upcoming road trip, which includes stops in New York, Boston, and Cleveland. It's hard not to wonder if Irving is dodging his former stomping grounds, as he had tumultuous exits from both the Celtics and Cavaliers.

The timing of this injury is very suspect, as Irving's return to TD Garden will now be delayed until at least March 3. However, the Nets and the Celtics meet again in Brooklyn on November 29th, which will serve as a good barometer of any animosity between the Celtics fan base and Irving (of which we're sure there's plenty).

The return of the star guard was likely going to be a tense one, with many fans in Boston bitter after watching Irving leave in free agency to join the Nets. Kyrie infamously claimed he wanted to be the last Celtic to wear the No. 11 jersey before the season, but clearly didn't live up to his end of the bargain.

This was a rotten cherry on top of an already unappetizing cake for Celtics fans, as NBA championship aspirations turned into a second-round exit in the playoffs in 2018-19.

Irving's return to Cleveland in a Nets uniform would've likely been less theatrical, as his role in bringing the organization a championship, combined with a longer amount of time away from the team, would've likely garnered a less icy reception. That reunion will now be delayed until March 28.

Due to his ailing shoulder, Irving won't be taking part in either game against his former teams.
