Lakers and Celtics Could Reportedly Battle it Out for Enes Kanter
By Michael Luciano
Enes Kanter is in line for a serious payday this offseason, as the Turkish big man can record a double-double in his sleep and is only 27 years old.
Having played most of his career in the small markets of Utah, Oklahoma City, and Portland, Kanter could be headed for either the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles or the perennial contenders in Boston, a team that probably could've used him at last year's deadline.
Both the Lakers and Celtics have registered interest in Kanter, who ended last season as a key member of a Trail Blazers team that made the Western Conference Finals.
With the Lakers in need of depth and the Celtics in need of a center if Al Horford bolts, the fit makes sense for both teams.
After splitting his first seven seasons in the league with the Jazz and Thunder, Kanter showed signs of his dominant offensive potential on a more consistent basis with the New York Knicks, averaging 14.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for Jeff Hornacek and David Fizdale.
Kanter latched on with Portland last season after falling out of favor with the tanking Knicks, still rarely improving his output on the defensive end, but cooking for long stretches on the glass.
Any contending team that needs size, an ace rebounder, and a soft touch around the basket should be first in line for Kanter's services.
Kanter has played major roles on playoff teams in Oklahoma City and Portland. He deserves a long-term deal somewhere, as he appears to still be improving.
