Frank Vogel is Already Anointing Anthony Davis as Defensive Player of the Year
Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers a compelling pick to win the NBA Finals at this point in time. AD and LeBron James bring overwhelming talent to the legendary franchise, the kind you need to get over the hump in the playoffs.
And what does Davis need to do especially well when it really counts? Impose his will on defense. Just ask head coach Frank Vogel, who's already prepared to call the superstar big man the best in the business on that end of the floor.
Davis has been named to the All-Defensive Second Team twice and the First Team once. But Vogel wants to put the crown on him here and now.
Davis is already averaging 2.8 blocks per game and 1.5 steals per game so far this season.
The leadership of Frank Vogel has certainly helped the Lakers get off to such a hot start, though the talent at his disposal is just unreal. Davis will likely say that his only care in the world is an NBA title, but there has to be a little part of him that has always wanted to be named DPOY over the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green, and Rudy Gobert. At this point, we can't put it past him.
