Lakers Giving Kentavious Caldwell-Pope a Player Option on His 2-Year Deal is Beyond Laughable

The Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, have championship aspirations for the first time since the 2012-2013 season, the last time they sniffed the postseason.

Frank Vogel's roster fills out with above-average role players like Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green, Quinn Cook, Dwight Howard and Avery Bradley, among others, who should contribute more than enough to lessen the burden of James and Davis.

A bench player that currently holds no value, however, is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and the Lakers are sadly stuck with him unless they want to eat $16 million.

Lakers fans are so fed up with KCP's play already that they groans will only continue to grow louder once they realized he's making $8 million this year and has an $8 million PLAYER OPTION for next season.

Through two games (48 minutes of action), the 26-year-old guard has contributed one point, while shooting 0-for-9 from the floor and committing mind-boggling fouls in their opener against the Clippers. He already has eight personal fouls on the year.

What is significantly alarming is the fact that Vogel has played Caldwell-Pope a generous amount. If Lakers fans can point out his horrid play, you would think that a head coach with nine years of experience under his belt would refrain from letting him see the floor.

We don't care that Kuzma and Rajon Rondo are still working their way back from injuries. Give more minutes to Alex Caruso or Troy Daniels -- pretty much anybody but Caldwell-Pope.

The bottom line is that, from this point forward, Vogel shouldn't even be presented with the opportunity to insert KCP off the bench unless this team is so hobbled they need an extra body on the court.

And the sad part is that the Lakers are stuck with him through next year unless they want to throw away $16 million because nobody is taking him in a trade.
