Lakers Insider Reveals How Petty and Misguided Magic Johnson's Targeting of Rob Pelinka Really is
By Sean Facey
Magic Johnson has turned plenty of heads in wake of his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers' front office. Particularly, though, he's had it out for general manager Rob Pelinka.
Johnson accused Pelinka of backstabbing after the GM alleged that he was never in the office.
The only problem with that is that Pelinka was actually right.
According to Lakers insider Bill Oram, virtually every source with knowledge of the situation said that Johnson was never in the office.
The reality of the situation is that Johnson is looking to place blame on anyone but himself, and he's unfairly chosen Pelinka as his target. He's simply using the agent-turned-exec as a scapegoat to avoid the harsh reality that he failed on multiple levels during his time as team president.
Pelinka wasn't backstabbing Johnso; he's holding him accountable for his poor work ethic and inconsistent investment in the team.
There's nothing wrong with that. Sure, you could say that the way Pelinka went about airing his grievances was a bit unprofessional, but that doesn't do anything to diminish the veracity of his words.
If he wasn't there, he wasn't there. No amount of scapegoating can change that.
