Lakers Reportedly Concerned About LeBron James' Health and Urge Him to Sit Out
By Thomas Carannante
The Los Angeles Lakers disappointed on Christmas Day after blowing a late lead and falling to the crosstown rival Clippers, but there could be a legitimate reason for their struggles in crunch time.
Early on against the Clips, LeBron James aggravated his groin injury that kept him out on Sunday against the Nuggets. And just like last Christmas, the Lakers don't want to take any chances. LeBron was reportedly approached by several members of the team urging him to sit out until he's 100%.
He said he felt fully healthy coming into the game even though he was dealing with the injury just days prior. He then proceeded to go 9-of-24 from the field with 10 missed 3-pointers. To top it all off, he once again deferred to other teammates in crunch time, and then turned the ball over on the final possession with a shot to tie the game.
Though he still put up 23 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds all the while having a +3 differential, LeBron clearly wasn't himself. The Lakers are looking at the big picture this year with the Finals in their crosshairs, and there's no way they're going to jeopardize the long term for the short term.
Expect LeBron to be on the shelf longer than the initial reports suggest because the King will be needed for the long haul.
