Lakers Reportedly Moving LeBron James to Point Guard
By Jerry Trotta
Not only do the Los Angeles Lakers currently boast an almost entirely different roster from last season, but the manner in which they run their offense is also reportedly going to turn on its head.
Per NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Lakers plan to deploy LeBron James at the point guard position heading into the 2019-2020 season.
Honestly, why did it take so long for this to come to fruition? Everybody knows that LBJ is one of the most gifted passers and boasts one of the highest basketball IQs of all time.
Instead, Luke Walton insisted on rotating between Lonzo Ball and Rajon Rondo at the point last year, despite the fact that his offense was significantly more efficient with LeBron calling the shots.
Haynes also understands that newly-acquired marksman Danny Green will accompany James in LA's backcourt. Just imagine the amount of floor space LeBron at the point will create for the likes of Green, Anthony Davis and Kyle Kuzma, to say nothing of the potential of the pick-and-pop with Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and Javale McGee.
We didn't expect The King to take a proverbial "back seat" for at least another season. But this report must suggest that he believes that La La Land has a genuine shot to compete for a championship. And most would agree their best chance is with him running the point.
Stop drooling, Laker Nation!
