Lakers Reportedly Not Likely to Sign JR Smith Following Cavs Release

JR Smith is homeless at the moment. The 33-year old veteran guard was just waved by the Cleveland Cavaliers despite efforts to find him a trade destination before the 5 p.m. waiver deadline hit.
Since being cut loose, he is now free to join any NBA team that wants him, but Adrian Wojnarowski reports that it is unlikely that he will rejoin former Cavs teammate LeBron James in Los Angeles with the Lakers.

Smith played just 11 games in 2018-19. After requesting a trade in Novermber that didn't come to fruition, it was announced that Smith would no longer be with the team while his future was discussed between his representation and the organization.
Smith was a key contributor in the Cavs' 2016 championship run and was able to average 8.6 points per game across 80 games in the 2017-18 season, but it is unclear where he could contribute in the future.

JR Smith is known around the league as somewhat of a risky acquisition, but when he's playing well, he can definitely make a difference for plenty of NBA teams as a spark plug off the bench.
