As we move closer to Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, the NBA's title-contending teams are preparing their final offers to acquire some of the league's top rental and upgrade options for this year's stretch run.

The Los Angeles Lakers sit atop the Western Conference standings, but without a ton of breathing room beneath them. The only Laker listed with an official injury is center DeMarcus Cousins, but Los Angeles would rather bolster its depth at point guard before the trade window passes. Cue up today's news!

In the final 24 hours leading up to the deadline, the Lakers have been in touch with the Nets and Thunder regarding Spencer Dinwiddie and Dennis Schroder, respectively, as noted by ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Dinwiddie's continued ascent in Brooklyn has led him to score at a career-high rate of 21.3 points per game so far this season. Only Kyrie Irving averages more points per game for the Nets this season. With good size for a guard at 6-foot-6 and a keen sense for when to dish the rock, Dinwiddie makes for a unique combo guard option for the Lake Show.

Schroder may not be as valuable as Dinwiddie, but the German guard is finally getting acquianted to playing in Oklahoma City. He improved each season spent with the Hawks before his trade to the Thunder brought about some regression. Now, Schroder is making the most of his minutes off the bench and gaining more confidence with his game.

Even with all the help LeBron James has behind him at the primary ball-handler spot, it never hurts to have an extra guy ready to step in. If the Lakers do anything at the deadline, they better address their depth situation in the backcourt. Keep an eye on these two options on Thursday.
