Lakers Waive Troy Daniels and Create Open Roster Spot
By Will Coleman

As the Los Angeles Lakers move closer to their long-anticipated playoff run, the roster the organization feels most comfortable with continues to take shape.
The Lakers announced Sunday that they will waive and terminate the contract of sharpshooting guard Troy Daniels, opening up a spot on the team's roster ahead of the postseason.

Daniels appeared in 41 games for Los Angeles this season. The 28-year old guard averaged 4.2 points over 11.1 minutes per game, knocking down 35.7% of his 3-point attempts.
The Lakers and Daniels' representation had been working toward an agreement to give him an opportunity to play elsewhere, but the move also gives Los Angeles the chance to finalize its bench rotation. While the Lakers don't have a particular free agent signee waiting to fill Daniels' spot on the roster, they want to stay flexible with the opening in case any issues with depth or injury occur.
“We worked in collaboration with Troy & his agent. ... we do not have another move imminent but we wanted to maintain flexibility.” Frank Vogel says on why the Lakers are waiving Troy Daniels. Today is the last day players can be waived and still be eligible for a playoff roster.

Dion Waiters is the obvious candidate to replace Daniels, but all signs point to Los Angeles taking its time with this decision. They'll meet with Waiters this week, though it seems unlikely a deal is reached immediately.
