Lane Kiffin Reveals How He Almost Worked for Ed Orgeron at LSU
By Jerry Trotta

Ole Miss wasted no time in finding a replacement for ousted head coach Matt Luke after canning him following a tumultuous 4-8 campaign in 2019. They found their man in FAU's Lane Kiffin, inking him to a five-year, $21 million contract.
Kiffin, despite being just 44 years of age, has already had himself quite the journey throughout the football ranks. On Tuesday, he even confirmed the long-floated rumor that he almost joined Ed Orgeron's coaching staff at LSU a few years ago.
For my #LSU followers, Lane Kiffin reveals what I've always heard but never truly believed:

While at #Bama in 2016, with LSU debating whether to hire Ed Orgeron, Lane spoke to AD Joe Alleva promising he'd come to BR to be OC if (1) Joe hired O and (2) he didn't get a head job.
That's right, folks. Back in 2016, Kiffin admitted to speaking directly to then-LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, laying out the two conditions by which he would agree to become the Tigers' offensive coordinator: if the program promoted Orgeron, who was interim head coach at the time, to the full-time role, and if Kiffin didn't receive any head coaching offers himself.
Of course, Kiffin took the job at Florida Atlantic, where he went on to compile a 27-13 record and two Conference USA titles.
He's now hit the ground running in Oxford in terms of recruiting efforts, proving that he needed little time to adjust to life outside of sunny Boca Raton.

It's dizzying to think that two of college football's most entertaining personalities in Kiffin and Orgeron could have been a one-two punch in Baton Rouge. Still, all's well that ends well. They'll be seeing each other on the field really, really soon.
