This Raiders Player is a Surprise Breakout Candidate for 2020
By Stephen Lebitsch
The Las Vegas Raiders (yes, you read that right) are entering into their first season in Sin City, moving into their new Allegiant Stadium with the bright lights and all the pressure bearing down on them. Along with the Oakland faithful's disappointment, the Raiders left behind a 2019 campaign that showed a bit of playoff promise before a quick demise for Jon Gruden and company.
With the Chiefs set to control the AFC West once again, it's hard to envision a rip-roaring season to kick off their Vegas residency. However, there is a very secret weapon the Raiders have in their arsenal could shock some fans with a big leap in 2020.
Allow us to reintroduce Hunter Renfrow.
Coming off a four-year college career at Clemson. where he was a reliant slot receiver that tallied 186 receptions, 2,133 yards, and two national titles, Renfrow's hype mellowed a bit in his rookie NFL campaign. Surprisingly serving as the Raiders' No. 2 receiver out wide, the 2019 fifth-round pick finished with a 605-yard, four-touchdown performance last season.
Despite his size and historic achievements at Clemson, Hunter Renfrow is a sleeper candidate in the slot role for the Raiders. His speed, quick route change-up, and hands can make him a reliable target for Derek Carr if things get hairy down the field. The Silver and Black brought in some important additions to their offense that could take away defensive attention from Renfrow, too.
At tight end, Darren Waller is returning from his impressive season in 2019. Las Vegas also acquired Henry Ruggs III through the draft and Nelson Agholor in free agency to join the receiving corps. With these other pieces in place, the Raiders could force opposing secondaries into tough matchups outside, leaving Renfrow open over the middle with real space to run. Keep an eye on the celebrated former Tiger in 2020.
