Raiders Cut Former Packers and Browns QB DeShone Kizer in Favor of Nathan Peterman and That's Devastating
By Jerry Trotta
The Las Vegas Raiders made a plethora of personnel moves on Tuesday, which included trimming their 90-man roster with some key cuts.
Among the six players released was quarterback DeShone Kizer, who was claimed off waivers by the franchise last September shortly after he was released by the Green Bay Packers. The move leaves the Raiders with three quarterbacks on the depth chart: Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, and Nathan Peterman.
Yes, Kizer was axed in favor of Nathan Peterman. Think about what that means.
Kizer didn't feature in a single game for the Silver and Black while backing up Carr in 2019. The former No. 52 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2017 hasn't seen action since appearing in three contests for the Packers two seasons ago.
The 24-year-old is most recognized for making 15 starts on an 0-16 Browns team during his rookie year. Across those 18 career tilts, he's completed a dreadful 53.1% of his passes for 3,081 yards, 11 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
At this rate, you really have to wonder what the future holds for Kizer. The fact that he couldn't beat out Peterman, a former walking meme of the Buffalo Bills, for a spot on the Raiders' roster says everything about his ceiling as an NFL player. Don't be shocked if this is the end of the line for him in the league.
