'Last Chance U' to End Football Coverage and Change Show Following Final Season
By Jerry Trotta

Football fans of critically-acclaimed Netflix series "Last Chance U" will need to soak up the final season for all that its worth because the show is planning to begin production of a basketball-centered spinoff shortly thereafter.
For the last five seasons, the Netflix original has shed light on college athletes that have struggled to keep themselves out of trouble, and are thereby forced to embark on a junior campaign with the hope of salvaging their respective careers.
Per the announcement, the new basketball series will premier in 2021.
On July 28, meet the players and coaches of Laney College.

The fifth season of "Last Chance U" will cover Laney College, which was selected as the program that would be followed by the streaming giant around this time last year. Perhaps fans of the show can expect the basketball debut somewhere between 12-14 months from now, assuming that the coronavirus pandemic doesn't alter production plans.
The series didn't exactly churn out idolized football stars, but that wasn't necessarily the goal of it, either. As of last year, a total of four "Last Chance U" alums were playing in the NFL, and we can expect a similar extent of success to be enjoyed by its embattled basketball players.
