Latest CBS Bracketology Update Leaves Kentucky Out of NCAA Tournament
By Sean Facey
The Kentucky Wildcats have gotten off to a dismal start -- for their standards -- in 2019, despite having opened the year with a win over No. 1 Michigan State. Overall, Kentucky sits at 8-2, which doesn't seem too bad until you consider the fact that their two losses have come at the hands of Utah and... Evansville.
Well, CBS Bracketology expert Jerry Palm is clearly not a believer in this year's Wildcats, as in his latest NCAA Tournament update, he failed to include John Calipari's side anywhere among the top 68 (!) in the country.
Palm was sure to mention that he still expects Kentucky to make the bracket, but that they're not playing up to snuff at the moment. Though it's at least a little bit surprising, it's not altogether unwarranted. The Wildcats have played quality basketball at times this year, but they've been on incredibly shaky footing basically from the get-go.
Still, Kentucky had clawed its way back up to No. 6 in the rankings. Surely a loss to Utah shouldn't see them fall out of the top 68. In all likelihood, this is a team that will remain in the Top 25 in the upcoming AP Poll, though they'll certainly be ranked quite a bit lower.
However, things could get worse yet for the slumping Wildcats, as they have a particularly challenging schedule upcoming on the docket, with back-to-back games against No. 5 Ohio State and No. 3 Louisville. A win against either one of those teams could have Palm rethinking his Bracketology rankings, but if the Wildcats look outmatched in either game at Rupp Arena, their case for the NCAA Tournament would certainly become a lot weaker.
