Latest Chiefs Move Gives Jordan Ta'amu Legitimate Chance to Grab Backup QB Job
By Carter Owen
The age of the dual-threat quarterback is upon us and Jordan Ta'amu could be the next one to join an NFL roster, especially after the latest news out of KC. The Kansas City Chiefs are cutting 23-year-old quarterback Kyle Shurmur. Shurmur, the son of son of current Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, spent most of last season on the practice squad, but was added to the roster to back up Matt Moore when Patrick Mahomes suffered a knee injury.
With Shurmur out of the picture, Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne and Jordan Ta'amu are the quarterbacks on the current roster. Thanks to the Chiefs' latest roster move, Ta'amu appears to have a great shot at battling for a spot on the 53-man roster as the No. 2 signal caller.
Ta'amu, a graduate of Ole Miss, most recently played with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL. He amassed 1,050 yards passing and five touchdowns in five games. Ta'amu also ran for 217 yards.
Ta'amu becomes the latest former XFL player to get a shot in the NFL, joining new Carolina Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker and new Los Angeles Chargers tight end Donald Parham, to name a few.
