Latest Injury Update on Braves Infielder Dansby Swanson Doesn't Sound Promising
The Atlanta Braves cannot be thrilled to hear the latest update regarding their shortstop's progress with his injury. This was supposed to be a breakout season for Dansby Swanson, yet he remains on the IL with no return in sight.
The infielder has kept off his feet since landing on the IL with a heel injury, and there is still no timetable for his return.
Swanson injured his heel after landing awkwardly on the first base bag in a July 23 game against the Kansas City Royals. The shortstop has remained on the IL ever since.
Swanson was having the best full season of his career this year before the injury, posting career highs in average, OBP, slugging percentage, OPS and home runs. The Braves will need Swanson healthy if they hope to seriously contend for a World Series.
The Braves continue to command the NL East, holding a six-game lead over the Washington Nationals, an eight game lead over the surging New York Mets and a nine game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. This upcoming series with the Mets will be crucial not only for their standing in the division, but their confidence to know they can continue to perform without Swanson.
