Latest Injury Update on Luis Severino and Dellin Betances is So Positive it Has Yankee Fans Nervous
By Michael Luciano
After missing out on almost the entirety of the 2019 season, Yankees ace Luis Severino and star reliever Dellin Betances just took big steps towards being able to return in time for the playoffs.
Severino felt good after a bullpen session today. After one more bullpen, Severino is expected to face hitters for the first time in forever.
After going 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA last season, Severino figured to be the undisputed No. 1 starter and a Cy Young contender on a Yankees team ready to compete for the championship. However, a lat injury in spring training erased almost all of this season.
Without him, they've had to rely on a patchwork unit featuring Chad Green as an opener and JA Happ, who it appears is trying on purpose to set the record for most home runs allowed in a season.
Betances also threw a bullpen session in which he claims he was throwing the ball extremely well, seeming almost giddy in reporting the news. He is expected to throw again on Wednesday.
If the Yankees' pitching staff can just tread water for a few more weeks, they'll finally have their 25-year-old star and unhittable setup man back in the mix as they prepare for a deep October run.
Yankee fans have longed to hear this all year long, and the nervous anticipation is now dominating the day.
