Latest Updates on Mets' Trade Deadline Plans Are Truly Confusing
By Daniel Marcillo
The New York Mets have been known for making insanely dumb decisions in the past, and they pretty much characterize the franchise.
Under the regime of Brodie Van Wagenen, the Mets have not been afraid to do things their own way, given his aggressiveness in the offseason and right before the trade deadline.
But now they're getting downright confusing.
Comfortable staying put isn't he worst thing in the world, but when you have the chance to trade a pitcher like Zack Wheeler, who seemingly won't re-sign with the team in the offseason, and get a good return is a little bit silly. On top of that, why in the world wouldn't you be at all interested in a trade package featuring Clint Frazier and Miguel Andujar, both of whom would immediately solve the left field and third base problems next season? They're cheap controllable players, which is exactly what the Mets are looking for, though their defense needs improvement.
Additionally, when teams such as the Yankees, Braves, Rays, Padres, Red Sox, Dodgers and Twins contact you, perhaps it's time to expand the conversation and make a deal happen. All of those teams have a wealth of prospects and the Mets could take advantage in a seller's market, especially after their farm system has been depleted after their last few deals.
It's truly hard to make sense of what's going on in Queens right now.
