LeBron James Destroys Drew Brees for Tone-Deaf Comments on Colin Kaepernick on Twitter
By Scott Rogust
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is having himself a bad day, and to be quite honest, he brought it on himself. As the nation is in a state of unrest following the murder of African-American man George Floyd, we've seen protestors kneeling in the streets for racial equality like Colin Kaepernick did back in 2016.
When speaking with Yahoo Finance on Wednesday, Brees said that any NFL player who kneels during the national anthem this upcoming season is "disrespecting the flag of the United State of America."
Brees colleagues, like Michael Thomas and Josh Jacobs, expressed their disappointment in him. Hours later, NBA superstar LeBron James heard Brees' comments and decided to educate him on the topic of kneeling.
As you read, James tells Brees and the others who have the same belief that kneeling during the national anthem was not meant to disrespect the United States military. In fact, LeBron mentions that his father-in-law served in the military, and he told the current Los Angeles Lakers star that he didn't find Kaepernick's kneeling offensive.
By doing research, you can watch and listen to the former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller say his kneeling during the anthem was meant as no disrespect to the armed forces. He took a knee at the suggestion of former US Army Green Beret Nate Boyer to peacefully fight against racial inequality and police brutality.
Even with those explicit explanations, Brees and many others can't grasp that concept. Maybe, just maybe, the Saints quarterback understands now, as he faces a barrage of backlash.
