LeBron James Has Somehow Already Tied Kobe Bryant in Lakers Triple-Doubles
By Jerry Trotta
At this rate (Year 17), you'd think it wouldn't be possible to be surprised by records or mind-rattling statistics LeBron James continues to rack up, but The King just continues to amaze.
In a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night, LeBron registered his 21st triple-double with the Los Angels Lakers. The relevance behind that statistic? It tied Kobe Bryant for the third-most in franchise history.
In another case of James stepping up against the next generation of NBA superstars (this time it was Zion Williamson) the 35-year-old delivered a vintage performance, logging 34 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.
Kobe was never known as a player who padded the stat sheet, but to think that LeBron has tied his triple-double tally in just his second year with the team -- keep in mind he played just 55 games last season -- is flat out ridiculous. The Black Mamba spent 20 seasons with the Purple and Gold.
This isn't the first time that James and Bryant's names have crossed paths this season. Back in January, right before Kobe's tragic passing, LeBron passed the Lakers legend for third place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
In gutting fashion, James and Bryant subsequently shared one last conversation discussing the broken record following that game. LeBron is surely honored to be mentioned in the same breath as his late friend.
