LeBron James has long been in favor of continuing the season, and with good reason. His Lakers are one of the best teams in the league, and they were in prime position to make another deep championship run before the COVID-19 delay. Although there is hope that the season restarts, there has been some pushback. Here are a few reasons why LeBron’s legacy would take a hit if the season does not restart.

3. The Lakers Experiment Fails Yet Again

Year 1 in LA was a colossal failure. The team never had time to build up its chemistry and then once it did, someone would get hurt. In year two, James finally got supporting cast members with championship and playoff experience. If this 2019-20 Lakers group never gets the chance to play postseason basketball, then LeBron’s decision to go out to LA looks a lot more questionable.

2. Missing Out on a Fourth MVP

James was the best player on one of the best teams in the NBA. As a result, he was in a position to win his first MVP since the 2012-13 season. While Giannis is a close competitor in Milwaukee, the award looked like LeBron’s to lose before the season went on hiatus. A fourth regular season MVP would help to build James’ Hall of Fame resume even further. There's a slim chance the NBA would still assign an MVP for the 2019-20 season, but it would still come with an asterisk.

1. Finals Record Stays the Same

For certain pundits, LeBron’s 3-6 record in the Finals is a knock to his all-time greatness. While winning would put him at 4-6 (which is still well below .500), a fourth title would help James’ GOAT argument. While his statistics speak volumes, the one accolade on James mantle that needs to be built up a bit more is winning another championship or two. Without a finish to 2020, the window gets smaller yet again.
