LeBron James Shouts Out Kyrie Irving on Instagram After Lakers' Victory Over Nets
By Jackson Thompson
LeBron James has no adversaries. It's just the way of the modern NBA, where as much as these incredible athletes battle on the floor, off the hardwood they're (for the most part) great friends.
Before the Lakers' 128-113 victory over the Nets, James met his former teammate Kyrie Irving at half court to catch up, and created an Instagram post gushing over the their memories in Cleveland.
James even went so far as to call he and Irving "brothers." While that might have been the case for the early portion of their run in Cleveland, the power struggle that emerged after the Cavaliers Finals comeback against the Golden State Warriors defines their relationship more than this Instagram post.
James and Irving have repaired their relationship some since Irving demanded a trade out of Cleveland. Kyrie wanted to run the show, and was tired of playing a youthful second fiddle to LeBron, even if it led to championships.
While the two do have a tainted history, it seems that there are no leftover hard feelings from the fallout in 2017. Irving and James even reportedly toyed with the idea of reuniting last offseason.
“We do have history, and I think that the magnitude of our relationship extends way beyond the floor, and I’m just appreciative,” Irving told reporters in Brooklyn. “I’ve learned so much from that guy and to see what he’s doing at this age, this many years in the league, he’s consistent, and that’s a great player right there."
James and Irving will meet again when the Nets travel to Staples Center on March 10.
