LeBron Responds to 1-Year Anniversary of Banner Removal in Cleveland
By Sean Facey
Wednesday marks a momentous day in the history of Cleveland sports. One year ago on this very day, the famous banner of LeBron James that hung outside of the Cavaliers' arena was torn down following his decision to leave the team for the second time.
James took the time to respond to the anniversary of the banner's removal on Instagram.
That much is true. James guided the Cavaliers to their first championship win ever back in the 2015-16 season, and the banner and feelings that came with it will never be forgotten in the hearts of Cavaliers fans.
It still doesn't take away the sting of watching him pursue his desires elsewhere in the league for the second time. When he departed for the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of last year, he left a black hole behind him. Cleveland went from an NBA Finals appearance to finishing the season 19-63, the exact same record they had the season after he left for the Miami Heat.
The removal of the banner was symbolic of the end of an era of greatness for the Cavaliers, however brief it may have turned out to be.
But like James said, the fans will always have those wonderful moments to reflect on, even when things are bleak by comparison.
