Lions Could Screw up Entire NFL Draft if They Take Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa at No. 3

While Joe Burrow is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, the landing spots for top quarterback prospects like Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon's Justin Herbert are a complete mystery.

The Detroit Lions, who pick No. 3 overall this year, have the potential to send the entire 2020 NFL Draft into chaos by taking one of these prospects to succeed Matthew Stafford. The Lions are conducting virtual meetings with Herbert and Tagovailoa as Draft Day creeps closer.

Lions head coach Matt Patricia, who coached against Herbert in the Senior Bowl, got a very close look at the former Duck.

Herbert is a bit of a polarizing prospect, as some teams may not like the suspect accuracy downfield, but others will fall in love with the size, arm strength, and production. Tagovailoa's arm talent and accuracy will lead to him being drafted very high in the 2020 draft, but his medical reports remain a major issue for his stock.

It seems like the Lions and the Dolphins are playing one long game of "chicken" with regards to taking a quarterback this high. The Dolphins will likely use pick No. 5 on a quarterback, but the Lions are trying to make it seem as if they will take a quarterback at No. 3 and force Miami to trade up. If Detroit ends up selecting a quarterback after calling Miami's bluff, the entire first round will be thrown into complete pandemonium, and the Dolphins could be forced to meet the Lions asking price for whoever they deem the second-best QB in the NFL Draft.

Miami might have three first-round picks, but Detroit has the potential to screw things up if they make a heel turn and pick a quarterback.
