Lions Place Star Free Agent Acquisition Trey Flowers on PUP List
By Parker White
The Detroit Lions were hoping to have their defense under Matt Patricia anchored by high-priced free agent defensive end Trey Flowers, but it seems they'll have to wait a bit to officially see him in action.
On Monday they placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Luckily, Flowers is just being placed on the active PUP list heading into training camp, which means he'll still count against the 90-man roster and can come off at any point in time.
Linebacker Steve Longa was also placed on the PUP list and the Lions signed tight end Austin Traylor.
The 25-year-old Flowers is a former fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots and signed a five-year, $90 million contract with Detroit this offseason. In 15 games last season, Flowers tallied 32 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.
Detroit also took a handful of players off the PUP list, including wide receiver Chris Lacy, offensive lineman Ryan Pope, defensive end Austin Bryant, defensive tackle P.J. Johnson and defensive tackle John Atkins.
